IMS clients make the ‘A grade’ in CDP report

November 27, 2015

IMS Consulting’s clients have once again performed exceptionally well in the CDP (Climate Disclosure Project) Climate Change Report; an annual leadership review of the world’s top performing companies’ carbon management.

CDP released the UK edition of their Climate Change report in London last week, along with the Global Climate A List for 2015. Once again, IMS clients achieved outstanding performance, comprising 25% of the UK companies that made it onto the much coveted ‘A list’, which identifies the companies leading the world in their actions to mitigate climate change.

IMS helps clients across Europe report and disclose their climate information, ensuring high quality submissions that consistently perform to a high standard in CDP; the world’s largest database of corporate environmental information, covering climate, water and forest risk commodities.

The new CDP global report was released on 4 November, with the information submitted by nearly 2,000 companies worldwide. All submissions are assessed against scoring methodology that sets criteria for both performance and disclosure of information.

The results are used by over 800 investors, with responsibility for US$95 trillion in assets, to understand how companies are addressing climate risk.

“We are delighted that our clients have performed so strongly again this year. At IMS we help companies at all stages in their sustainability journey and it’s satisfying to see our clients rewarded for coming so far and performing so well in this year’s CDP report,” said Graham Sprigg, IMS Chief Executive.

This is the fourth year in a row that IMS has worked with companies in Europe to help them understand and interpret their carbon disclosure more effectively. As an Accredited Provider recognised by CDP, IMS is one of a small number of UK consultancies to be recognised in this way.

“CDP’s accredited consultancy partners commit to working with us to facilitate high quality disclosure of climate change data and we are delighted that IMS Consulting will continue to work with us as a partner in the UK. They provide valuable services for companies looking to improve their carbon management and sustainability reporting,” said Paul Robins, Head of Partnerships, CDP.

This year, CDP analysed changes over the past five years finding that nine out of ten companies now have activities in place that are lowering their carbon output, compared with less than half in 2010. In addition, the percentage of businesses with targets to reduce the intensity of their greenhouse gas emissions has more than doubled.

Clients supported this year by IMS include 25% of the UK companies represented in the A List, 10% of companies who have so far committed to support CDP’s Climate Action initiative, and clients in the FTSE 350 who among them scored 99A, 99B, 98A and 97B. In addition, international clients supported by our Paris office include a perfect score of 100.

As part of IMS’s ongoing commitment to helping companies understand and implement more effective carbon reductions, we recently commissioned research by Bristol University into setting science-based targets.
