Recent examples of sustainability reporting, and our clients' views

British Land CR Engagement

IMS undertook an online stakeholder survey for us to understand attitudes to CR reporting and materiality on CR issues. We were delighted with the quantity and quality of the response that we received and have used the findings to inform our thinking for the future.

- Justin Snoxall, Head of the Business Group at British Land

Finasteride is used to shrink an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) in adult men. It may be used alone or taken in combination with other medications cura la calvicie to reduce symptoms of BPH and may also reduce the need for surgery. Finasteride may improve symptoms of BPH and provide benefits such as decreased urge to urinate, better urine flow with less straining, less of a feeling that the bladder is not completely emptied, and decreased nighttime urination. This medication works by decreasing the amount of a natural body hormone (DHT) that causes growth of the prostate. Finasteride is not approved for prevention of prostate cancer. It may slightly increase the risk of developing a very serious form of prostate cancer. Talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks.

UK-GCB Member Survey

The UK-GBC used StakeholderTALK to undertake the first full survey of our membership. The consultation was live for two and a half weeks and during that short period of time we received responses from over 50% of member organisations. This is a very encouraging result, as the survey was comprehensive and some of the questions fairly detailed. The main benefit of the StakeholderTALK project is that the results were quantifiable and they have given us the opportunity to shape our future activities based upon solid feedback from our stakeholders.

- Paul King, Chief Executive, UK-GCB

Morgan Sindall CDP Submission

Morgan Sindall Group asked IMS Consulting to assist with the preparation of our CDP submission for 2012. We realised that the way questions are approached, and the rigour with which the responses are given, form an important part of application. The result speaks for itself.

- Clare Sheridan, Deputy Company Secretary, Morgan Sindall Group plc

Skanska AB CDP Submission

In preparing our submission to the Carbon Disclosure Project for 2012, Skanska once again used the services of IMS to help produce answers to parts of the questionnaire based on material available in-house. IMS has good drafting skills allied to a good understanding of the subject. This is the third year in a row that Skanska has worked with IMS on its CDP Nordic 260 Climate Change Report submission, and for the third year running Skanska is the highest scoring construction company in the Report.

- Noel Morrin, Senior Vice President Sustainability at Skanska

Lambeth Water Summit

Due to understanding the importance of the water-cycle and how this can affect all services provided, Lambeth engaged with IMS Consulting to organise a water summit. Using their expert knowledge and contacts, IMS arranged an event which brought together industry leading figures. Such experts presented and highlighted the risks of having too much and too little water, and discussed the impacts these extremes can bring to an organisation such as Lambeth. The event ended with a productive and well-structured workshop which has delivered clear messages and actions for Lambeth to take forward and deliver.

- Owen Davies, Sustainability Engineer at Lambeth Council

Morgan Sindall CDP Submission

Measuring and reporting our carbon emissions underpins our Total Commitment to sustainability and in particular, our objective of reducing our energy consumption and carbon emissions. We are delighted to have achieved a ranking of 86 B, putting us in the top 10% of businesses disclosing emissions through the Carbon Disclosure Project. This is a real testament to the effort we are putting into identifying, reporting and managing our carbon impact.

- Brian Handcock, Head of Sustainability and Environment, Morgan Sindall Group plc

RSA Environment Awards Forum Offline Engagement

“The 12 companies chosen for Europe are the cream of the crop in terms of UK environmental innovation and demonstration of their ‘green’ commitments.”

- Lord Taylor, Parliamentary under Secretary of State Defra.

IMS Consulting and Carillion CDP

We started working with IMS Consulting a couple of years ago when they supported us with our CDP submission; ever since we have achieved our highest ever score and made it to the CDP Leadership Index.

IMS has provided a tailored, streamlined approach to our CDP requirements and provided the guidance we needed to improve our submission.

- Elena Gonzalez, Corporate Sustainability Manager, Carillion plc

IMS Consulting and Jewson

I’ve worked with IMS for over three years now and have always found them extremely helpful in supporting our sustainability aims. The team’s knowledge in the field helps to expand upon what we’re trying to achieve as a business and enables us to access the latest advice when it comes to ever changing legislation.

For our 2013 Sustainable Development Review we wanted to take a new approach to the document, moving away from a mere corporate report and moving towards making a document that is accessible by all. By working closely with IMS we were able to produce something that delivers our key sustainability messages and achievements from the last year in an easily digestible and entertaining format.

I’d recommend IMS because they take the time to understand your business, rather than jumping in with a one size fits all approach. They look to find a solution which meets your needs, even if this means creating a bespoke offering.

- Rod Leigh, Sustainability Director, Jewson

IMS Consulting and Morgan Sindall Group

Over the past 4 years IMS has helped us refine our strategic approach to sustainability by working with us to develop and implement our sustainability roadmap. This involved an engagement exercise, facilitation and inputting into our steering groups which assisted in determining what is important or 'material' to the Groups's stakeholders. This materiality assessment established the priority areas, actions and milestones which gave our overall communication plan regarding sustainability messages a clear focus

We would certainly recommend IMS to assist any organisation in the creation and delivery of sustainability roadmaps, strategy and communications. Since working with IMS 4 years ago, our Group's communication of its sustainability performance has gone from strength to strength most recently with its latest Sustainability Report being one of the first produced with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative G4 standard.

It is our belief that being a sustainable business is fundamental to the way we create value, both in terms of how we operate as a Group and the projects that we deliver.

- Brian Handcock, Head of Sustainability and Environment, Morgan Sindall Group plc

IMS Consulting and Skanska AB

At Skanska AB, sustainability is an essential and integrated element of our overall business strategy and everyday operations.

Skanska AB has used IMS services since 2006, where it has supported various internal and external education and communication initiatives helping create content, materials and platforms that really drive and re-enforce our sustainability strategy together with our green business initiatives.

We really value the support we get from IMS as they have a better understanding than most about the key topics that we want to communicate in order to educate our stakeholders.

IMS provides me with cost-effective, timely services using staff that have a good grasp of Skanska and our priority topics.

- Noel Morrin, SVP Sustainability & Green Support, Skanska AB Sweden

RSA Environment Awards Forum

IMS have been providing the secretariat for the RSA awards forum and the selection of UK entries to the European business awards for the environment for nearly 2 years. In the past parts of this work have been carried out by private sector contractors. In my view this was never completely satisfactory and I was somewhat concerned that the whole of the secretariat and administrative functions would be run by a private sector company. I should not have worried IMS have delivered these services in a competent and more important committed fashion. It is this commitment which not only ensures the success of the forum and we hope the continued success of UK entries in Europe, but also has made them a delight to work with.

- Malcolm Aickin, RSA Environment Awards Forum Executive

Jewson Sustainability Review

IMS worked closely with Jewson to provide advice, guidance and best practice in Sustainability Reporting. Graham and the team at IMS identified key areas where the 2011-2012 Jewson Sustainable Development Review could be enhanced and assisted in aligning Jewson’s priorities with the Saint-Gobain UK and Ireland roadmap. The Jewson business has many positive stories to convey in the area of sustainable development and IMS identified the best, in addition to creating a more engaging review with the inclusion of stakeholder voices. The evolution of this review is a credit to IMS - their contribution was invaluable to Jewson and we would not hesitate to work with them again in the future.

- Katie Turner, Marketing Manager, Jewson

Saint-Gobain strategy

Saint-Gobain’s strategy is to become the reference for sustainable habitat and construction solutions. This requires us to embed sustainability at the heart of our organisation and to demonstrate that we are operating in a fundamentally sustainable way across all of our businesses. This presents a unique set of challenges due to the size, scope and diversity of our organisation which is made up of over 1000 sites, encompassing both distribution and manufacturing operations.

Since 2010 we have worked closely with IMS Consulting to develop our UK & Ireland sustainability strategy and plan, and to promote the business case and strategic importance of this to both internal and external audiences as part of the deployment activity. Starting with a strategic review by IMS of our sustainability positioning, we then embarked upon a stakeholder engagement programme, using their StakeholderTALK™ engagement process, which subsequently fed into the development of a materiality matrix. This helped to inform the development of the 2010 UK & Ireland Sustainability Report but most importantly it formed the basis of the emerging Saint-Gobain sustainability roadmap.

IMS Consulting has worked closely with Saint-Gobain’s three pillar working groups and sustainability steering group to advise on and support the development of the roadmap; helping to identify relevant targets and KPIs that support our business objectives and are aligned with the requirements of our key stakeholders. Working with IMS has enabled us to benefit from their expert knowledge in this field to accelerate our programme and to move us closer towards achieving our strategic goal.

- Richard Batley, HR Director, Saint-Gobain Ltd
